Current Grievances (Since September)

• Article 6 Section C
  • Drivers being promoted to Jumper without proper bidding.
    • Denied by COL and removed by DWA because of the language in the contract which fails to include Jumpers with school or wholesale drivers.
      
• School route drivers were not offered work when schools were closed, and the driver had no sick or personal days.
  • The matter was settled where one driver Desire in Jersey City was paid and going forward all drivers will offer work via a sign-up form based on seniority.
    
• Warehouse workers were not offered overtime work in Jersey City based on seniority.
  • Arbitration on 2/20/24.
    
• Drivers and warehouse workers were not given the September contract raises if they were hired before September 2nd.
  • Arbitration on 3/12/24.
    
• A warehouse worker was not paid for the New Year’s Day holiday because they called out on their 6th day of work, but they were paid when they did the same thing on Christmas.
  • Article III-5 scheduled days and 40 hours.
    
• A Jersey City Jumper was not paid the $180 for taking a route out of Florence during a day of mass callouts.
  • Settled and paid in full
    
• Route 267 in Jersey City was never put up for bid after the driver’s resignation.
  • Denied by the company until the route becomes available next week.
    
• COL has agreed to a $30 rate reduction with a minimum of $300 for any Jumper leaving that position to be a wholesale or school route driver.

Current Events

• Jackets (drivers) and Hoodies (warehouse)
  • 96 warehouse workers and 137 drivers gave sizes.
    • 61 people missing.
    • 1/19/24 will be the last and final call.
  • Estimated price is between [Financial details available to members].
• Jersey City will provide lunch for members by the week ending 1/20/24.
• Florence will provide breakfast or lunch for members by the week ending 1/27/24.
• Two maintenance workers, one in Jersey City and one in Florence, are currently in the process of being added to the Union via a petition to the Labor Department.
  
• We are working with the attorney for the second time modifying the Constitutional Bylaws. Once the changes are made, they will be brought before two meetings and voted on for approval.
  
• A storage unit was rented for Union property in Jersey City and will be directly withdrawn from the checking account at [Financial details available to members] per month.
  
• By March we will present a proposal for a DUES INCREASE.

Article IV-Officers

• James Walker of Florence was unanimously nominated by the Board for Driver Shop Steward and a vote will be held by general membership today.
  
• Anthony Fitgerald of Jersey City was unanimously nominated by the Board for Treasurer and a vote will be held by the general membership today.
  
• Alexander Rodriguez of Jersey City was unanimously nominated by the Board for Secretary
  
• Bronsen Hartley has accepted the offer of a newly created Tech Position for the Union and a vote will be held today by the general membership.
  
  • The job will include creating a weekly Union newsletter for the members as well as maintain and run the Zoom for the meetings.
    
  • The suggested pay will be [Financial details available to members] monthly, a computer, and quarterly dues returned.
    
    • IF A COMPUTER IS NEEDED FOR YOUR JOB FUNCTION YOU MUST SUBMIT A REQUEST FOR ONE TO THE EXECUTIVE BOARD/BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND THE AMOUNT OF THE PURCHASE BEFORE MOVING FORWARD. IF YOU LEAVE OFFICE, YOU MUST RETURN THE COMPUTER OR FACE CHARGES FROM THE UNION AND THE DOL.
